Pavell Meteorite Collection

This collection was donated by Larry Pavell, a long-time friend and supporter of the observatory.  They can he held in your hand, allowing people to touch something that is 4.5 billion years old!

 

Sikhote-Alin iron meteorite fell in 1947

The Sikhote-Alin meteorite fell in 1947 in Maritime Russia.  This iron meteorite weighs 127 grams.

Odessa meteorite found in 1922

 

The Odessa meteorite was found near Odessa, Texas in 1922.  It is a 64 gram iron meteorite.

Nadiabondi, an ordinary chondrite, fell in 1956

Nadiabondi fell in 1956 in Gourma Provence, Burkina Faso, Africa.   This is a 3 gram stony Chondrite.

Mundrabilla, an iron meteorite found in 1911

 

Mundrabilla was found in 1911 in Western Australia.  This iron meteorite weighs 88 grams.

Juancheng, an ordinary stony chondrite, fell in 1997

 

This specimen fell near Juancheng, Shandong China, in 1997.  It is a stony meteorite weighing 21 grams.  A total of greater than 100 kilograms was recovered.

The Allende meteorite, a carbonaceous chondrite, fell in 1969

 

The Allende meteorite fell in 1969 near the city of Allende, Mexico.  It is a 23 gram stony chondrite.

Campo del Cielo iron meteorite found in 1576

The Campo del Cielo is an iron meteorite found near Chaco, Argentina in 1576.  Our specimen weighs 47 grams.  A total of more than 2000 kilograms was recovered.
